About Talking Planet Studio
Talking Planet was originally created in 2019 as a language first-aid kit by animator Cadi Catlow after she observed the communication challenges faced by refugee children and teachers in Belgian schools. It relaunched in Nova Scotia in 2022 to support indigenous communities working hard to revitalise their cultural languages.
Prior to Talking Planet Studio, each version was made as a close collaboration between Language Keepers and Talking Planet technicians, recording language and painstakingly building each episode by hand. This process is time consuming and carries significant costs, making it unsuitable for those needing urgent resources on a limited budget.
While we do still offer our Full Service for communities wanting a greater level of support and the higher production value afforded by professional edit suites and audio equipment, Cadi wanted to provide something more immediate, organic and responsive to the needs of each Language Keeper - something which centred them at the very heart of the project from beginning to end, with no need for outside involvement, no time pressures, and no limitation on the number of revisions. Something children could use as easily as an educator.
Talking Planet Studio is the result.
We hope you enjoy using it!
Love,
Team Talking Planet
